Type a word into WinThesaurus, press a button, and this free Windows application will quickly bring up a list of synonyms for whatever word you typed in. Alternatively, you can go over the list of root words and pick something; once you do, WinThesaurus will once again bring up a list of synonyms for whatever word you selected.

Two WinThesaurus installers are available, one for 32-bit systems and another for 64-bit systems. No matter which one you get, a simple setup wizard will guide you through the installation process and, once it completes, it will offer to open the WinThesaurus Help file which contains useful information on how to use this application.

Three boxes are featured on the interface:
Type/Select a word or phrase – type in a word, hit Enter, and you’ll get your list of synonyms.
Root Words and Phrases – select any word from the list and you’ll be presented with a list of synonyms.
Synonyms for Selected Root Word or Phrase – this is where WinThesaurus lists all the synonyms.

According to developer Ron Charlton, WinThesaurus features 30,260 root words and phrases, each root has an average of 83 synonyms, and there are over 2.5 million synonyms in all.
